Ambassador´s meeting with the Minister of State for Trade and Investment

On the day of the formal activation of Article 50 of the Treaty on EU and of the actual commencement of the process of the UK leaving the EU, the Czech Ambassador held talks with the Minister of State for Trade and Investment of the British Department for International Trade, Greg Hands MP.

Ambassador Sečka presented the three priority areas of the Czech Government for the forthcoming negotiations on brexit to the Minister. The priorities are as follows: guarantees for Czech citizens in the UK, settlement of the British obligations arising from EU membership, and issues related to security and defense policy. In this context, the Ambassador stressed the importance of bilateral trade relations as the UK currently represents the fourth most important export market for the Czech Republic.

Minister Hands confirmed the interest of the British government to maintain the excellent level of bilateral relations and expressed his interest to visit the Czech Republic at his earliest convenience for more detailed negotiations on the possibilities of developing bilateral trade relations.
