Ambassador Libor Sečka was very delighted and honoured with such generous offer and he personally visited the Lowenstein family in their home in northern London. He met Mrs. Nettie Lowenstein, who, together with her husband, Heinz Bernard Lowenstein, was the owner of the painting, and her daughter, Mrs. Anna Lowenstein. He learned an interesting story of the origins of the painting, whose author Stan Young was in the 1950s on a study trip in then Czechoslovakia. His visit to Lidice touched him so much that he decided to make a painting depicting the complete destruction of the village in 1942. The Lowenstein family bought a sketch of the painting and later on, they received the finished work from the artist as a gift.

Now, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the massacre in Lidice, Mrs. Nettie Lowenstein and her three children decided to donate the painting to the village of Lidice. The Mayor of Lidice, Mrs. Veronika Kellerová, received this news with deep respect and gratitude.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in London will secure the transfer of the painting to the Czech Republic and its necessary restoration. Subsequently, the painting will be ceremonially handed over to the Lidice Memorial, in cooperation with the British Embassy in Prague and with the participation of significant guests.
