Former chief conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Liverpool Libor Pešek passed away

On Sunday, October 23, the renowned Czech conductor Libor Pešek passed away at the age of 89. From 1987 to 1997, Maestro Pešek was the artistic director and chief conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Liverpool, and in England, he made a significant contribution to the systematic promotion of Czech music, especially the work of Josef Suk.

Besides others, he also collaborated with the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Royal Philharmonic and the London Philharmonic. His UK tour with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra was also a great success. In March 1996 Queen Elizabeth II made Maestro Pešek a Knight of the British Empire and in 1997 he was awarded an honorary fellowship from the University of Central Lancashire.
