Celebration of the Velvet Revolution for Czech and Slovak kids in the United Kingdom

On Sunday 24th November the Association of Czech and Slovak Schools in the UK organised a celebration commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution for kids at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London.

The programme included art and music workshops for kids, artistic portrayal of a 1989 demonstration, meeting contemporary witnesses of the Velvet revolution, exhibition about the Velvet Revolution (in cooperation with the Czech Centre London) and the traditional Czech and Slovak cuisine.

Prizes for the best products made in the art workshops were handed to the winners by Mrs. Sabrina Sečková, wife of the Ambassador Sečka, and by Prof. Jan Marek, one of the contemporary witnesses of the Velvet revolution. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Jana Nahodilová who led the event on behalf of the Association of Schools.

Association of Czech and Slovak Schools was founded in 2016 and it includes 10 expat schools across the United Kingdom. Main goal of the association is to support the education of expatriates and a preservation of Czech and Slovak culture and traditions in the UK. An indisputable part of its activities is an educational support of these institutions and fellow organizations. During its existence, the Association organised of many events cooperated on development of several Czech and Slovak communities in all parts of the United Kingdom.
