Czech Republic to Host Olympic Qualification Event 2017

The World Curling Federation has announced that its Olympic Qualification Event 2017 will take place in Pilsen, Czech Republic. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and the Czech Embassy in London made a contribution to this great success, as a part of their sport diplomacy.

A total of eight women’s and eight men’s teams will compete at the event between 5 and 10 December 2017, in the Winter Arena Košutka.

President of the World Curling Federation, Kate Caithness, said: "I’m delighted to confirm that we will be taking our Olympic Qualification Event to Pilsen in the Czech Republic, where I am in no doubt that the Czech Curling Association will host a first class event in December."

The Vice-President of the Czech Olympic Committee, Roman Kumpošt, said: "We are delighted that thanks to intensive cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Czech Olympic Committee the prestigious curling event will be held in the Czech Republic. Sport makes a great promotion for our country worldwide and we believe that the Olympic qualification in Pilsen will contribute to this. At the same time, the opportunity to host such an important event just weeks before the start of the Olympics will be for Czech curling a unique chance for its further development. "
