Ambassador Libor Sečka becomes a Freeman of the City of London

Libor Sečka, the Czech Ambassador to the UK was made a Freeman of the City of London.

On Friday 15 November 2019, during a ceremony in Guildhall, the historical centre of the City of London, the Remembrancer, Mr Paul Double, bestowed the status of ‘Freeman of the City of London’ on HE Libor Sečka, the Czech Ambassador to the UK (Freemen of the City).

The Freemen status is a unique part of the historical tradition of the City of London since 1237, when it brought many practical privileges to its laureates. Prior to 1996, only a British or Commonwealth citizen could become a Freeman of the City of London.

The ceremony was held as a part of “Czech day” in London in the context of the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution celebrations held in London. The celebrations also included a Czech-British business seminar on Fintech and the gala ‘Velvet Freedom Ball’.
