Between 5-7 November 2018, the Embassy in London, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic, led a project in which Czech experts focused on various aspects of cyber security visited the UK and discussed current co-operation and it’s possible forms in the future with British partners.

The Czech delegation held talks with representatives of some of Britain's most renowned cyber security professionals and university research departments. They met experts from Oxford University (Cyber ​​Security Oxford), Royal Holloway (Information Security Group), Imperial College London (Cyber ​​Security), King's College London, King’s Academic Center of Excellence in Cyber ​​Security Research and the University of Southampton, which are among the academic centers of excellence recognised by the British National Cyber ​​Security Center. They also had meetings with cyber security companies such as BAE Systems/Applied Intelligence, the Consortium (ISC²), which is the world's leading professional cyber-security and IT security organisation, as well as representatives of the British National Cyber ​​Security Center.

The subject of the meetings was the further development of the already existing cooperation between some of the Czech and British universities and the effort to establish further long-term cooperation in security research, including possible future joint projects, either within Horizon 2020, within the next Framework Programme or through bilateral inter-university and inter-faculty level, and personnel and student exchanges.

Britain is one of the European and global leaders in the development of programmes and tools to combat cyber threats, and has outstanding results in related fields such as artificial intelligence, quantum cryptography, smart cards, telecommunication, IoT, and also focuses on the security aspects of crypto currencies. Artificial intelligence, for example, is one of the priority fields of the new UK industrial strategy, and the UK government has introduced a so-called sector agreement for the development of artificial intelligence and machine learning with companies and universities. The Czech universities and companies have also excellent outcomes in the cybersecurity sector - for instance global cyber security companies such as AVG and Avast were established, nurtured and still benefit from the highly skilled expert base in the Czech IT environment.

The mission was comprised of cyber security specialists from Masaryk University, Brno University of Technology, the Technical University of Ostrava, Palacky University in Olomouc, the National Office for Cybernetics and Information Security and, the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic.
