Czech beekeeping and honey products presented at World Bee Day in London

World Bee Day in London was celebrated on 21 May 2019 at Conway Hall in central London. More than 400 people popped in to sample honeys from various parts of the World. The main organisers were Conway Hall, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia and, Bee Midtown.

The visitors had the opportunity to sample the honeys and to learn about the art and tradition of beekeeping from various parts of the world including the Czech Republic. The exhibition was opened with speeches by HE Tadej Rupel, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Jim Walsh, Executive Director of Conway Hall and, a representative of Bee Midtown.

The Czech Republic was represented by Mrs Petra Serakova from the Non Profit Organisation, Nature, Bees and, Man along with diplomats from the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London. The Ambassador of the Czech Republic, HE Libor Secka and, his wife, who also visited the exhibition said that on looking at the numbers visiting the Czech stand he was personally convinced that Czech honey tantalised the taste buds of the visitors. The NPO Nature, Bees and, Man prepared a presentation of 14 different honeys from 14 different regions of the Czech Republic including flavored types such as chocolate and almond and, a mead wine which is extremely popular among Czechs at Christmas time. Mrs Serakova was also proud to inform the visitors about the work of the Czech Beekeepers Association which has 60,000 members who breed and look after more than 500,000 bee colonies, a number which impressed the visitors.

Another interesting fact is that the Czech Republic has the highest proportion of beekeepers compared to its size of population. This is mainly due to tradition and the fact that beekeeping is a hobby for a lot of people even in the capital, Prague, where about 500 beekeepers have their hives.
