Ambassador Libor Sečka visited the Guernsey Island

Between 8th and 11th July, Ambassador Libor Sečka and his wife Sabrina visited the Guernsey Island. The aim of the visit was to follow up on the friendly cooperation between the Czech Republic and the self-governed island, one of the Crown Dependencies in the English Channel, established in the previous years.

Ambassador met with Guernsey’s Chief Minister Peter Ferbache and Minister for External Affairs Jonathan Le Tocq and discussed further possibilities for collaboration in areas as art, business, education or integrated emergency services.

Together with Mr. David Ummels, Head of External Relations at the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce and founder of Art for Guernsey, the Ambassador honoured the legacy of Czechoslovak WWII pilot Jaroslav „Yardeskie“ Novák, who was killed in action whilst defending the island in 1943. The ceremony took place on a boat at the spot where the Jaroslav Novák’s plane was shot down. It included a musical performance of Czech authors by local musicians and a painting honouring the Czechoslovak pilot made by local artist Ms. Sally Ede-Golightly.
