In 1939, Sir Nicholas Winton saved the lives of 669 mainly Jewish children from Czechoslovakia, whom he helped transport to the United Kingdom from the incoming Nazi regime under the so-called "kindertransports" scheme, and he helped them find new homes. A large part of their families later perished during the Holocaust. Mrs. Barbara Winton was a tireless protector and promoter of her father's legacy. In 2014 she wrote the book "If it's Not Impossible...The Life of Sir Nicholas Winton" and as of 2018, she was one of the founders and trustees of the Sir Nicholas Winton Memorial Trust, which takes care of the documents and artefacts relating to Sir Nicholas. In 2021, she has received the Silver Medal of Jan Masaryk, which is awarded by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London to exceptional personalities who have contributed to the development of Czech-British relations.
