Czech delegation in London

From 7th to 10th June 2019, the Embassy received a visiting delegation of experts from the Senate of the Czech Parliament, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic, who deal with Czech expats abroad.

The Senate of the Czech Republic was represented by Senators Tomáš Czernin, Patrik Kunčar and Secretary Bronislava Vacková from the Standing Commission on Czech Expats Living Abroad; The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented by Jiří Krátký, Special Envoy for Czechs living Abroad and, Dana Prudíková, Deputy Minister for Legislation and International Relations, and, Eva Tučková from the Basic Education Department represented the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.

On arrival to the Embassy, the delegation first met Ambassador Libor Sečka and then had a meeting with the Heads of the Czech schools in the United Kingdom. The discussed the possibilities of further support from the Czech Government to ensure the smooth functioning of these schools in the years to come. In addition, the members of the delegation met with representatives of several expatriate organisations at Velehrad London, to learn more about the fellowship community in the UK and the difficulties they face.

On Saturday 8 June, members of the delegation visited the Czech School without Borders London in Islington, where they spoke with its Director Zuzana Jungmanová about the possibilities of cooperation and support. This gave them an opportunity to see the school in action by attending some of the classes.

In the afternoon, the delegates attended a Garden party hosted by the British Czech and Slovak Association. On Sunday 9th June, they were honourable guests at a Garden party for children, parents and friends of the Czech School without Borders London which took place in the premises of the Czech Embassy. During the party which was to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the school, Mrs. Sabrina Sečková, wife of the Czech Ambassador, handed over certificates to the ninth grade graduates.

The delegation had the opportunity to meet and chat with Czech expats living in the UK at these events. Senator Tomáš Czernin, in his introductory speeches, assured the present members of the local Czech community about the support of the Czech government and thanked the associations for their continued activities and spread of the good name of the Czech Republic abroad.

On 10th June, the delegation traveled to the north of England and then to Scotland, where they have another interesting work programme.
