Irena Sedlecká passed away

Irena Sedlecká, a Czech sculptor and member of the Royal British Sculpture Society, died in London on Tuesday at the respectable age of 91.

She is best known for her works depicting British personalities. Probably the most famous is the three-meter statue of the singer of the band Queen, Freddie Mercury, which stands on the shores of Lake Geneva since 1996 in Montreux, Switzerland.

Irena Sedlecká lived in the United Kingdom since 1967. Her second husband was the renowned sculptor František Bělský. In 2004, Irena Sedlecká received the rtis Bohemiae Amicis Medal for the positive promotion of the good name of Czech culture abroad.
