Memorial in Leamington Spa

On Sunday 16 June 2019, the annual ceremony was held to commemorate the Czechoslovak paratroopers who assassinated the Nazi Reich Protector, Reinhard Heydrich in Prague on 27 May 1942.
 

The event took place in the park of Leamington Spa, by the fountain in the shape of a parachute. The fountain lists the names of the seven heroic paratroopers: Jan Kubiš, Jozef Gabčík, Adolf Opálka, Josef Valčík, Jan Hrubý, Jaroslav Švarc and Josef Bublík.

Mrs. Georgina Pavel, trustee of the Memorial Fountain Leamington Spa Association, gave a speech, as did the Deputy Ambassador of the Czech Republic Mr. Jan Brunner. The event was attended by the local authorities, Czech and Slovak compatriotsfriends of the association and representatives of the Czechoslovak Legionary came from the Czech Republic too.

In total, approximately 50 people gathered together on this Sunday noon to honour the Czechoslovak fighters who died for the freedom of Czechoslovakia.
