On Sunday October 31st, representatives of the Embassy led by Deputy Ambassador Michal Strouha, took part in a traditional memorial service at the Brookwood Cemetery to honor the memory of Czechoslovak soldiers who served during World War II. The event was organized by the Memorial Association for Free Czechoslovak Veterans, and it took place again after 2 years, given that in 2020 it had to be canceled due to the pandemic.

Besides other guests, the event was attended by the husband of Ambassador Chatardova, Mr. Benoît Chatard, and the Embassy’s military attachés. Deputy Ambassador Strouhal gave a speech and, together with his military colleagues, laid wreaths in the military and civilian parts of the cemetery. The military attachés also donated an honorary plaque of the original 310th Czechoslovak RAF Fighter Squadron to the current commanding officer of the 310th RAF Squadron, Captain Gary Simon. Unfortunately, the original plaque was destroyed in a fire.

Children from the Czech School without Borders London and the Saturday Czech and Slovak school Okénko sealed the event with a performance of Czech, Slovak and the UK’s anthems.
