Military commemorative events

The Czech Republic's Defence Attaché, Col. Jiří Niedoba, attended three commemorative events which were held in the United Kingdom on 24 June, 30 June and 1 July 2018.

On Sunday 24th June at 2pm, the Annual Service was held at the New Forest Airfields Memorial, in Black Lane BH23 8EB, on the western edge of the WWII Holmsley South airfield.  Representatives of WWII Allied Nations were represented at the service, in person or by wreaths laid on their behalf, and the Lady Mayor of Christchurch gave an address. The Memorial in Black Lane commemorates airfield operations and 20 000 military and 10 000 civilians who served here on twelve airfields and lived in the local area during WWII.

On Saturday 30th June took place Armed Forces Day, the regional event in Plymouth. The day began with tributes to the fallen, when distinguished guests and members of the Armed Forces laid wreaths at Plymouth’s RAF War Memorial. This Memorial stands on Plymouth Hoe and remember the many nationals who flew with the RAF during World War II. The monument was unveiled by Air Marshal Sir John Curtiss on Sunday September 3rd 1989, the Fiftieth Anniversary of the declaration of War.

On Sunday 1st July was held the ceremony at Capel-le-Ferne during the Battle of Britain Memorial Day. The ceremony honoured the 25th anniversary of the unveiling of the Battle of Britain memorial in Kent.
