NATO Leaders Meeting

NATO leaders met in London on 3rd and 4th December 2019. Together, they marked the 70th anniversary of the most successful alliance in history and looked to the future together.

The Czech Republic was officially represented by President Miloš Zeman. Other official representatives of the Czech Republic at the meeting were Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Tomáš Petříček, Minister of Defence Mr. Lubomír Metnar and the Ambassador of the Czech Republic at NATO Mr. Jakub Landovský. The meeting officially commenced with a reception hosted by Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace on 3rd December. The official programme took place in Hotel Grove in Watford on 4th December. As a part of bilateral meetings Minister Petříček met with the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Francois –Philippe Champagne.

The leaders made a series of decisions on a range of issues, including further improvements to the readiness of our forces, recognising space as an operational domain, updating our action plan against terrorism and balancing the burden more fairly when it comes to investing in our defence.

“NATO continues to be the bedrock of peace and stability in the Euro-Atlantic area. Europe and North America are doing more together than in decades. NATO raised the readiness of its forces, and for the first time in history, we have combat-ready troops in the east of our Alliance. We fight international terrorism together, including with training missions in Iraq and Afghanistan and we are modernising our Alliance to deal with the challenges of the future. “
