Deffence attaché Brigadier General Beran visited WWII veteran Charles Strasser at the Jersey Island

On 12th of December, on the Jersey Island at Channel Islands, Defence Attaché of the Czech Embassy in London, Brigadier General Vratislav Beran, visited the 95 years old WWII veteran, Mr. Charles Strasser OBE.

The Defence Attaché office representatives were accompanied by Colonel Robert Speychal, Director of Veteran Care Department on the Ministry of Defence. They were received by Lieutenant Governor of the Jersey, Vice-Admiral Jeremy Kyd CBE, who keenly listened to Mr. Strasser's life story and promised to visit him, as the representative of his majesty the King at the island, once he reaches 100 years of age. Then, Colonel Speychal had presented Mr. Strasser the Certificate of Participation in the National Struggle for Liberation.

Mr. Strasser had reached the UK prior to the WWII and his family soon followed, thanks to the Rotary Club. During the war, he served as a motorcycle courier and after the war, thanks to his language skills, he also was present at the Nürnberg Trials with general Ečer, whom he helped to secure the evidence of war crimes committed in Czechoslovakia and elsewhere. He is a keen pilot, even though three years ago, at the age of 92, he had to give up piloting his own airplane. Yet still, he is very vital and full of energy, which often dedicates to charity.
