Czechia opened a new honorary consulate in Peterborough headed by Petr Torák

Petr Torák became the first Czech Honorary Consul of Roma origin. His main tasks will be providing consular services and assisting Czech citizens in the Peterborough area.

Peterborough is home to significant Czech and Slovak community of about 6,000 people. The new Honorary Consul will also help promote Czech interests in areas such as culture or the development of business opportunities. The new Honorary Consulate is located at the Compas Charity building at 19 Fitzwilliam Street, Peterborough, PE1 2RU.

The Honorary Consulate was opened by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic Mr. Libor Sečka, Mr. Paul Bristow, Member of the British Parliament for Peterborough, and Mrs. Leonie McCarthy, Director of the Peterborough Voluntary Service Council.

Peter Torák comes from Liberec and has lived in Peterborough since 2000. In the period 2006 - 2017 he worked as a police officer and was awarded by the prestigious Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2015 for his work with local Czech and Slovak community. Since 2017, he has been working for PT Consultancy, where he focuses on counseling in the field of social work, community cohesion and work with minorities. At the same time, he serves as CEO of Compas Charity, of which is a co-founder. He is also a member of the Council of the Government of the Czech Republic for Roma Minority Affairs and an advisor to the Council of Europe for inclusive education.
