The Czech Republic presides the Council of the European Union

On 1 July 2022, the Czech Republic took over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from France.

The Czech Republic presides the Council of the European Union for the second time, the first time in the first half of 2009. It enters its second presidency with the slogan "Europe as a task, Rethink, Rebuild, Repower” based on a 1996 quote from late president Václav Havel.

The Government of the Czech Republic has chosen the following 5 priorities for its presidency:

  1. Managing the refugee crisis and Ukraine’s post-war recovery
  2. Energy security
  3. Strengthening Europe’s defence capabilities and cyberspace security
  4. Strategic resilience of the European economy
  5. Resilience of democratic institutions

You can follow the progress of the presidency on a dedicated website.
