Working visit by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Tomáš Petříček to Manchester

On 7 February 2020, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Mr. Tomáš Petříček, will visit the United Kingdom. The Minister will visit Manchester as a place with a large concentration of Czech citizens working and living in the area and the seat of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic.

As the first point of his programme and on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, the Minister will commemorate the Czechoslovak soldiers at the war grave in Stockprot. A representative of Her Majesty The Queen,Vice-Lieutenant Paul Griffiths, will lay flowers on behalf of the Lieutenancy of the Greater Manchester.

The Minister will then meet Czech compatriots at the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Manchester. The working visit will take place immediately after the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the EU, when we must pay the utmost attention to safeguarding the rights and position of Czech citizens living in the United Kingdom. This topic will be the main discussion point of the meeting.

The next point of the programme will be discussions on Czech-British cooperation in nuclear research, development and education with representatives of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of the Czech Technical University, the University of Manchester, the Dalton Nuclear Institute. Another discussion topic will be the cooperation between Czech and British firms and clusters in the newest aviation and space technologies with the participation of the North West Aerospace Alliance and the Moravian Aerospace Cluster.

In the afternoon, the Minister will meet the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Abid Chohan, and the deputy Leader of the City Council, Ms. Sue Murphy, at the City Hall.

The programme will conclude with a discussion with Czech students at Manchester University.
