76th Anniversary of Czechoslovak Brigade in Cholmondeley

On July 9th 2016 the annual Service for the Czechoslovak Legionaries who were stationed at Cholmondeley in 1940 took place at the Czechoslovak memorial in Cholmondeley Park, Cheshire.

The service marked the time after the defeat of France when thousands of Czechoslovak soldiers came to the Great Britain in an hour of greatest need to continue the struggle against Nazism. The military camp was established for them in the park which belongs to the Cholmondeley Castle. On behalf of the Czech Embassy Col Jiří Svatoš, Defence Attaché and Mr. Ondřej Hovádek attended the Service. Col. Jiří Svatoš, along with the Defence Attaché of Slovakia Col. Milan Gavlas, laid wreaths by the memorial.

Col. Svatoš would like to thank the members of the Association of Czechoslovak Legionaries Abroad for their organisation of the event as well as to the representatives of the British Legion and British military cadets for their assistance.
