Czech Painters in California

The Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles, in association with the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, is planning an exhibition dedicated to Czech painters in California.  This exhibit will open in late 2022.

We are asking for your assistance with this project. If you happen to have any paintings by Czech artists, or painters of Czech origin, who resided on the West Coast of the United States, please get in touch with us at the following email: CzechConsulateLA@gmail.com

Also, if you have contact information for painter's relatives, or if you have any supporting documentation that you could land to the Consulate for the purpose of the exhibition, we will very much appreciate it. Furthermore, we would be very grateful for pointing out names of other Czech artists who are not mentioned below.

The main purpose of this presentation is to bring attention to the many forgotten Czech artists createing on the West Coast of the United States from the late 19th century to the present. Among the more recognized names are Hugo Anton Fisher and Frank Koci, both of which resided in Bay Area. From Southern California are such names as Godrey, Vesely, Edouard Vysekal or Frederick Kann.

In addition, we would like to call your attention to artists who mostly created paintings for the film industry, such as Cyril Jurečka, Adolf Leškovský, Emil Kosa, Fred Sersen (aka Ferdinand Sršeň). Further, we are interested in artwork of more recent artists, such as Geroge (Jiří) Karger, Jerry (Jaroslav) Gebr or Alois Lecoque (Alois Kohout) and many others.

Please e-mail your suggestion at: CzechConsulateLA@gmail.com

Thank you very much in advance for your assistance with this exciting project.
