The Czech National Day of October 28 in 2020

Dear Compatriots and Friends of the Czech Republic in the American West, Hawaii and Alaska,
Dear Patrons and Partners of the Consulate General in Los Angeles,

The end of October traditionally marks the time to celebrate the 1918 proclamation of the independent Czechoslovak state. Another occasion to celebrate this year is the anniversary of the Czech Consulate General in Los Angeles. It was in the fall of 1995 that we opened our doors to the public for the first time.

Over the past 25 years, our team has assisted thousands of clients, programmed hundreds of cultural undertakings, and arranged dozens of events in support of Czech commerce, science and education.

We have been able to keep our doors open for you throughout the ongoing pandemic, every business day. Yet we understand that your visits are less spontaneous - to follow protective measures we require appointments to be scheduled in order to maintain social distancing, furthermore, face coverings are required for both visitors and staff.

The current regulations mandate that we postpone all of our projects in the public space. We are nonetheless continuing their preparations and look forward to inviting our guests once the circumstances allow, under the leadership of Jaroslav Olsa, Jr., the newly appointed Consul General of the Czech Republic, who is to take up the post by year's end.

Our pledge to further the Czech-American dialogue and to provide consular assistance is as strong now as it has been for the past 25 years, despite these current difficult times, and will continue to be as we move into the future.

We thank for your patronage and wish you and yours strong health and optimism.

Josef Smycek
Consul & Acting Head of Post
