At the Czech Consulate General in Los Angeles, the Visa Section is closed to all walk-in visitors until further notice.

Our Visa Section can currently accept the following visa applications:

• Schengen visa
  • for family members of Czech/EU citizens with residence in the Czech Republic
  • unmarried partners of Czech/EU citizens with residence in the Czech Republic whose permanent relationship has been separated by the coronavirus pandemic
  • for diplomatic passport holders
  • for Key Scientific Personnel and for High Qualifications Personnel to be employed in the Czech Republic in a position for which a work permit had been granted (see footnote ‡)
• Czech (national) long term-visas and long-term residence permits:
  • for applicants (see footnote ‡) pre-approved
    • under the Key Scientific Personnel Scheme (KVP),
    • under the High Qualifications Personnel Scheme (VKZ), or
    • under the Qualified Personnel Scheme (KZ)
  • for the purpose of sports (see footnote ‡)
  • for the purpose of culture (see footnote ‡)
  • for the purpose of studies (accredited schools/courses ONLY) (see footnote ‡)
  • for the purpose of scientific research (see footnote ‡), including applications by accompanying family members (spouse and minors below 18 only) of scientific researchers
  • for the purpose of performance of a highly skilled job (EU Blue Card, also see footnote ‡), including applications by accompanying family members (spouse and minors below 18 only) of EU Blue Card applicants
  • for spouses and minors below 18 (purpose of family reunification) ONLY if the principal applicant had already been issued a Czech long-term/permanent residence permit
  • for applicants whose last Czech residence card ("povolení pobytu", NOT a Czech visa) expired (see footnote ‡)

Excepting the visa applications above, no other submissions can be filed at the Visa Section of the Consulate General until further notice (in person or by mail).

Qualifying applicants are welcome to request an appointment. All other unsolicited new requests for appointments will not be acted upon.

A schedule is being prepared for resumption of operations of Visa Sections at Czech embassies and consulates abroad. Please follow the website of our Consulate General and of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for updates.

Holders of a Schengen visa, issued by our Consulate General on/before March 13, 2020, who could not use their visa to visit the Czech Republic owing to entry restrictions, will be able to lodge a new application for Schengen visa after the Visa Section resumes full service (date TBC). Standard application requirements will apply, however, the visa fee will be waived.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

‡ While extraordinary and protective measures of the Czech Ministry of Health are in effect, applicants for this visa/permit must also request their Czech employer/school/research institution to complete and provide them with an additional special confirmation (PDF, 764 KB). After the confirmation is completed, duly signed, stamped and bears the place and date of issue, the Consulate General will accept the original, or a scan made from the original.

The confirmation must be submitted to the Consulate General by the applicant (not by the issuing body):

• in person, at the time of a Schengen visa interview, so that the application is eligible for further processing;
• together with the application for a Czech (national) long term-visa or long-term residence permit, or at any time during the processing of the application, so that the visa sticker can be issued at the end of the process.
