Extension of the consular accreditation of the Embassy

Since 1 September, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Lusaka assumes consular responsibilities for the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

With effect from 1 September 2021, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Lusaka carries consular responsibility for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, whereas the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Kinshasa remains the diplomatic mission accredited to the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The office in Kinshasa continues to provide consular protection for Czech citizens who reside in the country or have got into difficulties while there.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Lusaka now receives applications for Schengen visas from citizens and residents of the DRC (these can also be submitted in Kinshasa at the European Visa Center), long-stay visas and resident permits and offers consular services, especially in the areas of legalizations, marriage, birth and death registrations, citizenship and travel documents.

The DRC, like Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi, is listed among countries with a very high risk of COVID-19 transmission and, thus, visa and consular services offered are limited based on the currently valid protective measure of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic setting conditions for entry into the Czech Republic.

Until recently, consular responsibility for the DRC had been carried out by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Abuja. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Mr. Jakub Kulhánek decided on the transfer in June 2021. A French version of the Embassy website was launched for this purpose.
