Travelling to the Czech Republic

Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and the DRC remain classified as countries with a very high risk of COVID-19 disease transmission, however, the rules for travelling from these countries to the Czech Republic are gradually being relaxed.

The following information is only a brief summary of the conditions for travel, please always consult the detailed rules with the consular section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Lusaka or read carefully the valid Protective Measure of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic.

Travelling from the Czech Republic

The general recommendations to consider all unnecessary trips to countries with very high risk of COVID-19 infection remain in force.

Travelling to the Czech Republic

Conditions for entry into the territory of the Czech Republic are regulated by the protective measure of the Ministry of Health of 26 October 2021. Quarantine measures and information for performing the RT-PCR test for the presence of SARS CoV-2 are the responsibility of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. Information on the recognition of certificates from other countries can be found here.

Persons entering the Czech Republic need to submit a completed Arrival Form, other rules for entry into the Czech Republic and rules for submitting PCR tests for the presence of COVID-19 before entering the Czech Republic are described in the Protective Measure.

As of October 27, 2021, the conditions for entry of children in the age group 0–12 have been relaxed. Similarly, travelers arriving from countries with a high and very high risk are newly exempted from self-isolation obligations . They need to undergo a second PCR test (if applicable) between 5th and 7th day after their arrival and during this period are obliged to use the FFP2 respirator or its equivalent.

Schengen visas

Fully vaccinated persons may apply at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Lusaka for any residence permit or visa without restriction (see the definition of vaccinated person). The applicant must submit the original vaccination certificate with the application in order to determine whether the definition of a fully vaccinated person can be applied. At the same time, applicants must sign an affidavit stating that they are aware of the applicable rules for entry into the Czech Republic (applicants will receive a confirmation form at the embassy).

Persons who are NOT fully vaccinated or who travel from countries other than the "green" countries can apply for a Schengen visa only for the necessary trips.

Necessary travels include:

  • family members of EU citizens, incl. CR
  • unmarried partners of EU citizens, incl. CR
  • travel in the interest of the Czech Republic
  • travel in urgent emergency situations: emergency medical services, fulfillment of obligations imposed by the court, summons of a state body, enforcement of a court decision, official hearing, entrance examination, nostrification examination, necessary care for close family members who are unable to take care of themselves, law enforcement care for or contact with a minor, other humanitarian situations
  • accredited staff of diplomatic missions in the Czech Republic, incl. private servants, and officials of international organizations
  • holders of diplomatic passports traveling for business purposes
  • scientific, key and highly qualified staff, meeting the conditions of the Highly Qualified Staff Program or the Key and Scientific Staff Program
  • critical infrastructure workers
  • international transport workers
  • seasonal employees (according to the Decree of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs No. 322/2017 Coll.)
  • workers in health, social services and food production

Long-term visas and stays

Applications for long-term visas and long-term / permanent residence permits are currently accepted for all purposes and at all consulates.
