Legalisation is verifying that a particular person signed the documents in front of the person verifying the documents or that a particular person recognizes the signature on the documents as their own.

Verification is official authentication of the fact that the transcript or copy of a document corresponds to the presented document. In case the documents are needed for use abroad, higher legalisation (apostille) or super legalisation is used for their verification.

Legalisation is not used to confirm the correctness or truth of the data in the inspected document, or its accordance with the law. The person legalising the document is not liable for the content of the document.

During legalisation, the inspected document is marked with an inspection clause and the official stamp.

LEGALISING A SIGNATURE

This can only be done with the applicant present. The applicant must present their valid photo ID (passport/ID card). They will sign the documents in front of an employee of the consular section, or they will recognise the signature as their own. A fee in cash must be paid according to the current consular rates. Please note that it is not possible to verify a signature on a blank document.

VERIFICATION OF A COPY OR TRANSCRIPT OF A DOCUMENT

The Consulate can verify that the transcript or copy of a document corresponds to the presented document. This cannot be done with a copy of personal documents (ID cards/passports/military ID), bankbooks, cheques, draws and geometric or technical plans. Legalisation also cannot be done in case the content of the documents cannot be reliably reviewed, or in case the content is not in accordance with the laws of the Czech Republic, or in case there are changes, inserted sections or cuts which cause doubts to its credibility.
