Minister of Foreign Affairs Petříček visited Manchester

On February 7, 2020, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Tomáš Petříček was welcomed by the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Manchester. The main objective of the ministerial visit was to meet Czech citizens and students and to deepen scientific and economic cooperation between the Czech Republic and the northern regions of the United Kingdom.

Currently, up to 100,000 Czech citizens live in the UK. Due to Brexit and the related need to apply for the settlement status, the interest in travel and registry documents and other consular acts has increased dramatically. During his visit, the Minister focused on the needs of the Czech expatriate community and assured local Czechs that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will remain available to them.

Minister Petříček was also accompanied by a large scientific and trade delegation, which presented Czech achievements in aviation and nuclear technology to the partners from The University of Manchester and aerospace research companies and discussed the possibility of further cooperation in these areas.

“Currently, our office handles about 60 consular acts a day, mainly the processing of applications for travel documents, citizenship certificates and the registration of registry events, ” noted Ivo Losman, Consul General, describing the current consulate operation.
