Czechs at Iloilo International Film Festival

The Czech Republic welcomed the year with its participation in the 2012 Iloilo International Film Festival. The festival is part of the FDCP’s flagship project dubbed Sineng Pambansa which aims to emphasize and establish the cohesive nature of film as an important cultural tool that can benefit from the exchange of ideas and relations with the foreign film community and industry.

The cultural partnership between the Czech Embassy Manila and the FDCP was forged in October 2011 with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement by H.E. Josef Rychtar, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Philippines and Mr. Briccio Santos, Chairman of the Film Development Council of the Philippines.

The MOA effectively launched „Czech Cinema Under the Stars“ in November 2011, which led to an invitation from the FDCP to participate in the 2012 Iloilo International Film Festival. Czech films introduced at the festival were ‚Bobule‘ (Grapes) and ‚Kolya.‘

The year 2012 saw the film festival welcoming the addition of foreign films for the first time, a welcome treat to those living outside Metro Manila as evidence by the high turn-out.

Aside from foreign delegates, the festival was also graced by notable artists from the industry such as Ms. Angel Aquino, Mr. Alemberg Ang, Mr. Alvin Yapan and Mr. Nick Deocampo, among others.
