BOŘEK ŠÍPEK to show his traces in Milan

An unique and never-seen-before exhibition at the Czech Consulate General / Casa Ceca Milano wants to remember the historic moment how powerfully was Bořek Šípek able to integrate and stimulate the Italian society during eighties of the 20th century while Czechoslovakia was still under the Soviet occupation. In the glassworks AJETO, today part of Lasvit, that was founded at the time for supplying his extraordinary crystal follies, his fire of freedom and generosity is still burning. His strong expressive, international language is very much appreciated and recognized.

The idea of celebrating the Czech masters of glass has been promoted by the Czech Consul General in Milan Dr. Jiří KUDÉLA, with the contribution of Dr. Cristina MOROZZI, Elisa and Elena ASTORI, DRIADE and RADA International. All of these companies gave to LASVIT and the glassworks AJETO a strong help in trying to trace the sign left by Bořek Šípek in Milan.

Establishing AJETO was one of his milestones and the exuberant design of Bořek´s artwork gave the glassblowers a hard lesson.  Nevertheless soon became the furnace a unique hub for special artistic crystal projects.

Internationally renown the furnace’s aura contains this very important mix of Bohemian craftsmanship and the capacity of talking all the languages of the world. Bořek has not been master of art and design only but his human side was also very strong. Gryscha, a gypsy guy that was not capable to keep up with his people found in AJETO a new home. Bořek was taking care of him and invited him as a partner to official ceremonies and social events, meeting with politicians and socialites. Gryscha was always able to ask simple and pure questions that embarrassed society. Bořek found himself in his dimension. Gryscha is still the true member of AJETO glassblowing team and with his unique sense of seeing things he shapes the wonderful team of glassblowers. A trace left by Bořek Šípek goes beyond trends, fashion and design but shows that inspiration often comes from the diverse and not accepted. This is why Lasvit put a lot of efforts into maintaining an institution as AJETO for the sake of a forceful culture that cultivates diversity. Because only then you distinguish yourself from the mainstream.
