Czech comeback to the Arms Trade Treaty’s Management Committee

At the end of the Seventh Conference of State Parties of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), the Czech Republic was appointed to the Management Committee for the period of 2021–2023. It will be joined by South Africa, South Korea, Costa Rica and the United Kingdom. The Czech delegation was led by Junior Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Mr. Lukáš Prokeš.

The Trety entered into force at the end of 2014. Its aim is to regulate the international trade in conventional arms, prevent the misuse of weapons and thus contribute to international peace and security. More specifically, it commits the State Parties to monitor arms imports, exports and ensure that arms do not exceed existing embargoes or are not used to violate human rights.

The Czech Republic assumed the function at the Management Committee already at the very beginning, when the Treaty entered into force. Furthermore, the Czech Republic continuously supports its implementation with 50 000 USD per year.
