The 2022 annual meeting of the parties to the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT)

The annual meeting of the parties to the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) took place on 22-26 August and was attended by a Czech delegation led by Acting Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Lukáš Prokeš.

The Czech Republic joined the work of the Eighth Conference (CSP8) as a member of the Management Committee, to which it was elected in 2021 (CSP7). It was on behalf of the Management Committee that Lukáš Prokeš presented a report on its activities and achievements over the last twelve months, including financial matters or new contracts. Besides the Czech Republic, Costa Rica, Republic of Korea, United Kingdom, and South Africa are members of the Management Committee.

The Treaty, ratified by the Czech Republic with the signature of the President of the Republic in September 2014, entered into force in December of the same year. It aims to regulate the international trade in conventional arms, prevent the misuse of weapons and thereby contribute to international peace and security. More specifically, it obliges member states to monitor the import and export of arms and to ensure that arms exports are prevented in situations where the export would violate international obligations or could be misused for human rights violations. Simultaneously,  the treaty contributes to levelling the competitive environment in favor of exporters from countries that have functional and effective control mechanisms, such as the Czech Republic.
