Czech UN Youth delegates at the Intersessional Seminar on Youth and Human Rights

Czech UN Youth delegates, Simona Petrů and Kristina Šůsová, spoke on behalf of the Czech Republic at the Intersessional Seminar on Youth and Human Rights.

The online event took place on 12th April 2021 and was organized by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The seminar consisted of two parts:

  • During the morning program, young people discussed the obstacles and discrimination they face and have overcome in their advocacy efforts.
  • The afternoon program was focused on raising the awareness about their human rights through UN human rights mechanisms.

Kristina Šůsová attended the session ‘Challenges and discrimination faced by young people in the realization of their rights’ of the seminar. She delivered a speech about the discrimination that young people face, especially in connection with the pandemic. She stressed the issue of the right to education as well as the right to health in connection with the young people’s mental health. Both of them were impacted by the pandemic.

In the afternoon, Simona Petrů attended the session ‘Youth mainstreaming in human rights mechanisms and next steps on youth and human rights at the international level’ of the seminar. She followed up with the idea of constructive problem solving. She considers the participation of young people in the public events crucial and she thinks it should not be limited due to the pandemic, on contrary it should be strengthened as young people face to specific problems during the epidemiological situation.
