HRC28: Czech Republic speaks on human rights in China, Russia, Azerbaijan

Speaking at the 28th session of the Human Rights Council (HRC28) on 17 March 2015, the Czech Republic expressed concerns about continued violations of human rights in China, Russia and Azerbaijan as well as about human rights ramifications of armed conflicts and violent extremism.

The Czech statement pointed to the continued harassment and detention of human rights defenders and activists in China and Azerbaijan, attempts to hamper citizens’ participation in public affairs in Russia, including the worsening of the human rights situation in Crimea illegally annexed by Russia. “We are concerned about the increasing lawlessness in armed conflicts linked to the growing threat of violent extremism,” said the Czech intervention condemning atrocities committed by Boko Haram and ISIS, in particular those targeting children.
