Czech Republic at the 50th Session of the UN Human Rights Council

The 50th Session of the Human Rights Council took place from 13 June to 8 July. 

The Summer Session lasted four weeks during which the States and Civil Society negotiated over 20 resolutions. Czech Republic participated again as a Member State of the Council. 

During the Council’s 50th Session, the Czech Republic presented, together with Indonesia, Lithuania, Maldives, Mexico and United States of America, a resolution on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association. The initiative extended the Mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur and contributed to further development of standards related to the exercise of these rights online. Czech Republic together with other EU Member States jointly presented resolutions on the human rights situation in Belarus and Eritrea.

The Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU commenced during the Session, the Czech Republic therefore presented statements on behalf of the EU in some cases.

 The Czech Republic is currently a Member of the Human Rights Council  until the end of 2023. It has been a Member three times (2019-2021, 2011-2014 and 2006-2007).
