HRC: The Czech Republic concerned about human rights violations in DPRK

The Czech Republic is deeply concerned about continuing grave and systematic violations of human rights in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and urges Pyongyang to fully cooperate with the UN Commission of Inquiry established earlier in 2013.

"It is important that the Commission is granted immediate and full access to the country in order to carry out a thorough and effective investigation into all reported violations, in particular those which may amount to crimes against humanity," the Czech Republic said in an Interactive Dialogue with the Commission of Inquiry on 17 September 2013.

Violations of human rights must stop and the regime should unconditionally release all political prisoners, the Czech Republic underlined, adding that the testimonies collected so far by the Commission of Inquiry provide alarming insights into state-orchestrated violations of human rights in the DPRK.

The dialogue with the Commission of Inquiry was held in Geneva on 17 September 2013 during the 24th session of the UN Human Rights Council. The Commission, established in March 2013, has conducted public hearings in Seoul and Tokyo to collect testimonies by victims of human rights violations in the DPRK.
