Ambassador Petr Gajdušek met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet

UN human rights chief welcomed Ambassador Petr Gajdušek on 5 November on the occasion of his appointment.
High Commissioner Bachelet appreciated the cooperation with the Czech Republic and its efforts aimed at promoting participation in political and public affairs. Initially a courtesy meeting developed quickly into an open dialogue about human rights challenges in Czechia, among discussed topics were above all situation of the Roma, right to vote for persons with mental disabilities or accreditation of a national human rights institution in line with international standards. Ambassador Petr Gajdušek recalled the 30th anniversary of the fall of communism and last year’s 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakia. He highlighted specific issues where the Czech Republic has made significant progress in the field of human rights as well as in other areas. During the dialogue, the situation in Venezuela and the Czech Republic’s important role during negotiations of the relevant resolution at the September Session of the Human Rights Council were also discussed.
Ambassador Petr Gajdušek reiterated Czech Republic’s continuous support to the Office of the High Commissioner, one of the main pillars of protection and promotion of human rights in the world.
