Long-term challenges related to the access for the Roma to education, housing and health, including the historical issue of forced sterilizations, as well as the situation of foreign nationals or the elimination of hate speech were among the main topics of the latest national report of the Czech Republic on the state of implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. The report was presented by Ms. Andrea Baršová, Head of the Delegation and Director of the Department for Human Rights and Minority Protection at the Office of the Government. The other members of the delegation were representatives of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport; Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs; Ministry of Interior; Ministry of Justice; Ministry of Regional Development, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the interactive dialogue with the delegation, the Committee commended the constructive character of the dialogue and debated specific measures in the fight against racism. The current legal framework and data collection in the Czech Republic, situation of the Roma, the fight against trafficking in persons and against extremism and the overall approach to foreign nationals were discussed in detail.

Following the review, the Committee will finalize its evaluation and prepare a list of tasks to be implemented by the Czech Republic. Czechia will be reviewed again in 4 years.
