Committee on the Rights of the Child reviewed report of the Czech Republic

On 22 January 2019, the Committee on the Rights of the Child considered the initial report of the Czech Republic on the implementation of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography.

Czech delegation, headed by Ms. Andrea Baršová, Director of the Department for Human Rights and Minority Protection at the Office of the Government, introduced the initial report, stressing that all acts defined by the Optional Protocol are criminalised by the Criminal Code and that the National Strategy to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings contained actions directly aimed at combating child trafficking.

In the following interactive dialogue, members of the Committee welcomed progress made by the Czech Republic including the implementation of several of the Committee’s observations and also pointed at issues that still need to be addressed, such as the availability of comprehensive data necessary for developing laws and policies.
