The 40th Session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), a mechanism examining human right situation in all UN Member States, takes place from 24 January to 4 February 2022. The Czech Republic will engage in reviews of eight countries.
During the current UPR Session, the Czech Republic will participate in reviews of Syria, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Lithuania, Moldova, South Sudan, Haiti, and Sudan. Other countries under the review are Togo, Iceland, Uganda, and Timor-Leste.
The UN Human Rights Council will adopt a report from each country’s review at its 50th session in June 2022 to provide a basis for implementation of adopted recommendations. The next Universal Periodic Review of these countries will take place in approximately 5 years. In the meantime, the remaining UN Member States will be reviewed.
