A representative of the Czech Republic took part in ICRC's visit to Bangladesh

The International Committee of the Red Cross had invited the Czech Republic, along with several other donor countries, to participate in its mission to Bangladesh. The mission took place from 2 to 9 December 2017. The Czech Republic was represented by Mr. Michal Kaplan, Deputy Permanent Representative at the Czech Mission to the UN in Geneva.

The main purpose was to evaluate ICRC's activities in Bangladesh and in particular its humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees in the Cox's Bazar District. The participants visited the Kutupalong camp where hundreds of thousands refugees live under dire conditions and the ICRC assists them in providing a mobile health clinic and restoring family links, among other things. The mission also met with government officials, civil society organizations and international donor community in Cox's Bazar and Dhaka.

The Czech Republic remains concerned by the situation of Rohingya refugees. To this end, the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided a humanitarian assistance through the International Organization for Migration amounting to CZK 5 million (approx. CHF 230 thousand).
