70th session of the Economic Commission for Europe

The 70th ministerial session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the highest political decision-making body of the UNECE, was held in Geneva on 18 and 19 April 2023.

The high-level dialogue focused on policy initiatives to support the digital transformation and maximize its positive impacts on sustainable development, and on initiatives to accelerate the green transformation and the transition to a circular economy and sustainable use of natural resources.
The Czech delegation was led by Deputy Minister of the Environment Eva Volfová, who in her speech highlighted the fragility of supply chains and economic interdependence in the context of the global pandemic and then Russian aggression against Ukraine. According to the latest outputs, the Czech Republic should be able to meet the decarbonisation targets set for 2030.
There was no high-level statement this year due to lack of concensus. However, despite opposition from Russia and Belarus, the meeting adopted a resolution on the "Economic and Social Effects of Russia’s Aggression Against Ukraine".
