Ambassador Petr Gajdušek met with UNCTAD Secretary-General

Petr Gajdušek, new Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, met with Mukhisa Kituyi, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on 28 January 2020.

Ambassador Gajdušek praised and supported UNCTAD's extensive activities in favour of developing countries with a view to achieving their greater integration in international trade, particularly in the areas of trade facilitation, investment policy, the digital economy and others. In this context, he mentioned the crucial importance of a well-functioning multilateral trading system for an open economy such as the Czech Republic, to which UNCTAD has the opportunity to make a significant contribution. On the other hand, the Secretary-General Kituyi emphasized the rapid integration of the Czech Republic into the European and world economy after 1989.

Both representatives discussed among other issues the preparations for the XV. UNCTAD Ministerial Conference to be held in Barbados in October 2020 or possible employment opportunities for the Czech citizens in the UNCTAD Secretariat.
