Ambassador Ivo Šrámek meets the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs

On 15 September 2020, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba met with EU Member States' ambassadors to the OSCE. He informed them about the latest developments in the country, including the violation of the ceasefire by the Russian side, which took place on September 6 and which resulted in the death of a Ukrainian army serviceman. Despite this event, the Ukrainian minister expressed his firm belief that a lasting ceasefire was the only possible way forward. Intensive diplomatic negotiations are ongoing with the aim of creating security conditions that will allow a lasting settlement in the Donbas region.

Minister Kuleba emphasized the useful role of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission and stressed the need for it to have full and unhindered access to all areas of the conflict zone, including the temporarily uncontrolled section of the Russian-Ukrainian border. Ukraine would welcome an even more active role of the OSCE beyond its current activities.

The ambassadors recalled the role of the OSCE in resolving the conflict in Ukraine through multilateral diplomacy at the highest level, monitoring the security situation, strengthening democratic institutions and promoting respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The Czech Republic welcomes Ukraine's constructive approach to the negotiations and, together with other Member States, supports Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
