Ambassador Šrámek at the OSCE Security Days

On 8th November, the OSCE Security Days in Vienna organized an expert roundtable on “A Human Rights-Centered Approach to Technology and Security”. The event was organized in cooperation with other OSCE institutions focused on opportunities and challenges associated with the design and use of new technologies including risks of abuse as well as positive application of such technologies.
 

The opening speeches were delivered by T. Greminger, the OSCE Secretary General,  I. Gísladóttir, Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and D. Mijatovic, Commissioner for Human Rights from the Council of Europe.

Ambassador Ivo Šrámek as the Chairman of the Human Dimension Committee (HDC) as well as the Chairman of the Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC) took a part on panel discussion on the risks involved in using technology to enhance security in the OSCE area. Ambassador presented findings of the previous HDC and FSC meetings in relation to new technologies and human rights with the emphasis on the topic of violence against women, freedom of expression and media and access to information. The subject of the subsequent discussion was the exchange of views and recommendations, in particular on how to use new technologies to eliminate threats to security in the OSCE region and to exploit the new opportunities that new technologies bring.
