28th OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum in Prague

The 28th OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic in Prague from 10 to 11 September 2020.The Forum discussed the experience of participating States in the prevention and fight against corruption.

In his introductory statement, Czech Foreign Minister Tomáš Petříček admitted that corruption affects to a greater or lesser extent all countries including his own. In addition to governments, he mentioned the important role of civil society and the private sector in the fight against corruption. He also supported possible strengthening of the OSCE anti-corruption commitments at the OSCE Ministerial Council scheduled for December 2020. The need for zero tolerance for corruption was mentioned in the speech of Albanian Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj, who at the Forum represented the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office.

On the margins of the Forum and on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the OSCE Charter of Paris, the OSCE Informal Group of Friends on the Environment organized a side event devoted to the current environmental and security challenges. The Czech Republic belongs to the founding members of this group.

Given the current epidemiological situation, the Forum was organized in blended format. In addition to almost one hundred delegates present in Prague, at least the same number of delegates attended the Forum virtually, and their statements were interpreted into all six OSCE official languages.
