The Czech – Chilean Air Transport Agreement was signed in Nairobi

The Air Transport Agreement between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Chile was signed in Nairobi on 11th December 2018

The occasion for the signing of this agreement was the ICAN 2018 (ICAO Air Services Negotiations Event). Mr. Pavel Řezáč, Czech Ambassador to Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, signed the agreement on behalf of the Czech Republic, Chile’s signature was provided by the Director of the Department of Law of the Ministry of Transport and Communication (and simultaneously the Acting General Secretary of the Civil Aviation Council of Chile) Mr. David Dueňas Santander.

Relations between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Chile in the area of civil aviation had hitherto not been regulated by any bilateral agreement. A direct connection by air between the Czech Republic and Chile does not exist. Nevertheless, LATAM Airlines of Chile expressed its interest in usual business relations between air carriers in 2016 by a code-sharing for the flights between Santiago de Chile and Prague, involving also Iberia Airlines.

Delegations from both countries met for expert negotiations to this end in 2017 and agreed on a proposed text of the Air Transport Agreement. The conclusion of the agreement was endorsed by the Czech Government’s resolution no. 773 of 20 November 2018.

The signed agreement will be discussed by the Parliament of the Czech Republic and subsequently submitted for ratification to the President of the Czech Republic.

The finalization of the agreement is the precondition for development of both direct and indirect international aviation service between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Chile.
