Czech government and NATO

Membership in NATO requires a well established interagency coordination among relevant government bodies.

  • Czech Government executes the supreme authority in the field of defense and security. State Security Council is its permanent working body.
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs manages the operation of the Permanent Delegation to NATO and staffs the political section of the Delegation.
  • Ministry of Defence deals with the political-military dimension of the Alliance and staffs the defence advisors section of the Delegation.
  • Czech participation in NATO military structures, missions and operations, as well as the operation of the military division of the Delegation is managed by the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic.
  • Ministry of Interior deals with the coordination with NATO on resilience and civil preparedness.
  • Overlap of roles and cooperation between NATO and the European Union requires a close coordination of the Permanent Delegation to NATO with the Permanent Representation to the European Union.
