Czech business delegation comprising of representatives of companies working in energy and transportation sector paid a visit to Dhaka between April 21 and 24, 2015. The business delegation was led by Ambassador M. Stašek and the main goal, besides introducing major Czech companies that operate in the field of transport and energy, was to strengthen ties between private sectors on both sides in an attempt to balance mutual trade exchange and establishing contacts with key ministries and government agencies in Bangladesh.

Czech trade mission to Dhaka included representatives of various companies such as Vitkovice Power Engineering, Vitkovice Power India Pvt. Ltd., Doosan Skoda, Inc. FANS or InterGlobe estd. P Ltd. that represents Transcon, CZ Loko and LET Kunovice (Aircraft Industries) on the Indian market. During the visit, the delegation met with Bangladeshi Minister of Industry Amir Hossain Amu, Minister for Power and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Rashed Khan Menon, Minister for Railways Mazibul Hoque and Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs BD Europe Mahboub Hassan with whom Ambassador M.Stašek continued negotiations related to the extension of the existing contractual base, strengthening economic and investment cooperation and initiating political dialogue through consultations at the level of deputy ministers of foreign affairs.

In addition to the above-mentioned negotiations the business delegation also attended a business seminar organized by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) and met with representatives of the Bangladesh Power Development Board.

The Czech side is well aware of the current setting of mutual trade between the Czech Republic and Bangladesh which is clearly in favor of Bangladeshi side and mainly focuses on the area of textile and clothing imports from BD to the Czech Republic. The main goal of the trade mission was therefore to strengthen relations amongst partners in the private sector and also introduce potential business partners on both sides in different segments of industry. Czech companies have considerable know-how and expertise in the field just energy and transport, they are not afraid of new challenges in non-standard territories and, moreover, are aware of the potential of BD which is determined by the position of the country in relation to IN and CN, planned infrastructure projects and trade and transport corridor between India and South-East Asia. This all makes BD a key partner in the region.

New Delhi Embassy intends to continue promote Czech industry in BD and to increase marketing of firms on the BD market. Czech industry has long tradition in the region and it is beneficial for both sides to gradually return Czech firm on BD commercial scene, so they could actively participate in the further development of industry and infrastructure of the country. Czech companies certainly have something to offer, be it the production and import of industrial or agricultural machineries, or import cars such as Skoda that still enjoy great reputation in BD. Example of recent successes of the Czech industry is the delivery of three planes type L 410 to BD army that will be finalized in the coming weeks.
