Exhibition "Bhutan - Land Close to Heaven"

The Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan in partnership with the Czech National Museum has organized an exhibition about Bhutan in Prague. The exhibition was open in March 2015 and will be open up to the end of October 2015. The exhibition showcases the rich cultural and tradition textiles, handicrafts and jewellery of Bhutan, and it is the first of its kind in the Czech Republic and in Central Europe.

 


Bhutan's Queen Mother Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck visited the exhibition in Naprstek museum in Prague on April 16th, 2015. She was accompanied by the Czech Minister of Culture Daniel Herman, Chairman of the Foreign Committee of the lower chamber of the Czech Parliament Karel Schwarzenberg, Director General of the Czech National Museum Michal Lukes and other prominent personalities.

The exhibition introduces to the visitors one of the less known countries in the Himalayas – Bhutan which is known in our country rather only by climbers and travelers. In addition to the beautiful natural scenery, Bhutan is also characteristic for its traditional textile manufacturing which represents a very important part of cultural heritage.

The Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan has lent dozens objects from their collections, especially jewellery, clothing and textiles. Visitors are able to admire all of the artifacts at the exhibition.

Some exponates are also from the archive of the Czech National Museum.

The exhibition includes also photographs made by Czech photographers Zdenek Thoma and Michal Thoma.


The exhibition is not only inside the Naprstek museum but also outside where sample of buddhist temple has been built. The large photos are provided by the Czech travel agency Livingstone which is a partner of the exhibition.
